Croatia's two-time world and Olympic champion Sandra Perkovic won the women's discus to notch up the 40th Diamond League victory of her career and her third here in Rome on Thursday.
Perkovic pulled out a meet record throw of 68.93 metres -- below her season's best 71.38 -- but enough to finish ahead of Cuban pair Yaime Perez (66.62) and Denia Caballero (63.48).
"The rounds were tough for me today. I had a problem around 65m so I was really angry. I just thought 'it's now or never and go for the meeting record'," said the 27-year-old.
"I've had some injury problems this year so it was important for me to still win and it feels like home in Rome."
"I'm proud to be the most successful athlete in Diamond League history," added Perkovic who remains on track to win the Diamond League title in her discipline for the seventh year.
Sandra Perkovic of Croatia competes in the women's discus throw event at the Golden Gala, the 4th stage of the 38th edition of the IAAF Diamond League 2018 on May 31, 2018 at the Comunal Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
