Police have charged two teenage males over the suspected murder of missing Tasmanian Billy Ray Waters, days after a body believed to be his was discovered in northern bushland.

A 17-year-old with no fixed address and another 17- year-old from Riverside were charged on Sunday in relation to the death of the 19-year-old.

The two teens will appear in Launceston court on Sunday evening, while a 33-year-old man remains in police custody.

"Police would like to thank the members of the public who came forward to Crime Stoppers with information which, coupled with some excellent police work, has led to these three arrests," said Detective Acting Inspector Craig Fox.

The body found in Mayfield on Friday is believed to belong to Mr Waters, but has not been identified, police say.

Mr Waters was last seen on August 4 in his hometown Launceston, and was reported missing by friends seven days later.
