Fresh details have emerged after Aussie cricket great Mitchell Johnson was involved in an ugly altercation with Yusuf Pathan in a Legends League Cricket match on Sunday.

Johnson was in action for the India Capitals against Bhilwara Kings in the T20 league when things turned nasty.

The Aussie bowling great confronted Pathan at the end of an over, with Pathan then screaming in Johnson's face and getting very agitated.

Teammates had to intervene, with umpire Kim Cotton seen leading Johnson away from the altercation.

Johnson has since been fined 50 per cent of his match fee for his actions, with details emerging about why the Aussie confronted Pathan in the first place.

One player involved in the game has claimed Johnson took offence to Pathan "sledging the female umpires”.

Pathan could be seen questioning Cotton after the final ball of Johnson's third over, which he thought was a wide but wasn't called.

The Indian batter had words with the umpire at the end of the over before Johnson stepped in.

Pathan, who played 57 one-day internationals and 27 T20 internationals for India, fronted up to Johnson and pushed his chest into the Aussie.

Johnson then pushed Pathan away before teammates and umpires intervened.

Johnson went on to dismiss Pathan for 48 off 24 balls, with Shane Watson contributing 65 off 39.

The Capitals chased down their victory target with three balls to spare, winning by six wickets.

Mitchell Johnson's swipe at ABC after losing commentary job

Johnson was also at the centre of controversy in August after he was forced to quit his radio commentary job with the ABC over a 'conflict of interest'.

The 40-year-old was forced out by the ABC due to his association with betting agency Bet Nation, which broke the national broadcaster's strict rules.

Johnson, who took 313 Test wickets for Australia, was scheduled to be behind the microphone during Australia's three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.

However he walked away from the gig when told he couldn't have dealings with commercial gambling companies while working for the ABC.

“I have really enjoyed working with the ABC team over recent seasons and was looking forward to doing it again,” Johnson told News Corp.

“There seems to be a lot of hypocrisy that goes with this rule. I don’t understand and you start to wonder about what you can and can’t say if you are calling for them.

“It’s blown me away a little bit: do we have to make sure we have to align with the ABC’s moral compass?

"There’s nothing I can do about it … that’s the rule and I guess I’m not going to work with them.”
