Stomach-churning footage shared by The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens on May 14 reveals an incredible insight into a phenomenon all tarantulas go through.
The video, shared on the Ohio zoo’s YouTube page, shows a red-kneed tarantula moulting, shedding its exoskeleton in order to grow larger.

The clip shows the seven hour process in its entirety in a spine-tingling time lapse.
According to the zoo, adult tarantulas can moult either once a year or every other year depending on the age and type of species.
