Crash causes chaos on busy freeway
Major delays are tipped for a busy Melbourne freeway after a multi-vehicle crash.
Two lanes of the M80 Ring Road are shut following a crash.
“Two right lanes closed on the M80 Ring Road Altona-bound just after the Sydney Rd overpass due to a multi-vehicle collision,” an alert from VicTraffic states.
“One lane is open with speed set at 40km/h.
“Please obey the overhead signals and merge early for everyone’s safety. Delays building rapidly.”
There are reportedly queues coming onto the freeway from Dalton Road, with delays of over an hour expected.
Surrounding roads, including the Hume Freeway, Sydney Road, Edgars Road and Mahoneys Road, are also congested.
“Please allow extra time for travel in thee area, and avoid this section of the M80 where possible,” VicTraffic said.
“Our signals team is monitoring conditions in the area and will adjust traffic lights to minimise congestion on surrounding roads.”
It’s understood police were called to the Western Ring Road about 7.20am after three vehicles and a solo rider were involved in a crash.
The rider reportedly suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the collision.
