'Just delighted': Co-workers win big on Lotto after playing for 10 years

A team of 16 work colleagues have kicked off their week celebrating a $1.6million TattsLotto win.

The private syndicate was one of 12 division one winning entries from Saturday’s draw.

The anonymous members are already making plans on how to spend their cut of the cash – including buying homes and overseas holidays, The Lott said.

“I’ve been expecting your call,” the syndicate leader laughed when he was contacted by a Tatts official.

“This is a private syndicate with 15 other people. It’s a workplace thing and something we’ve been running for over a decade.

“I’m just so delighted,” he said, adding that the biggest prize they have previously won is $1,000 six years ago.

He said some members believed they’d never win.

“I had a lot of fun telling the other syndicate members that we’d won. A few of us got together yesterday to celebrate,” he said.

“We’re a diverse group of people of all ages. Some are going to use it to help buy their first homes, others are going to enjoy an overseas holiday and some are building a nest egg for retirement.

“Everyone is absolutely rapt!”

The syndicate purchased its winning 10-game entry at Williams Newsagency in Ballarat.

“We will be celebrating in the store with a party atmosphere. Actually, we have already decorated our store with balloons and streamers,” Williams Newsagency owner Bruce Thomson said.

“We sold a division one winning syndicate share in a Superdraw in February this year, so it’s wonderful to have another win as it makes it five division one wins in seven years.”

Another syndicate of 40 people in Melbourne took home a $1.7million prize in Saturday’s drawing and an Adelaide man walked off the job on Monday after learning he had won a whopping $1.6million to himself.
