A torn ACL was never going to stop Denver Broncos wideout Courtland Sutton from reaching his potential. Sutton was rewarded for his return Monday, reportedly signing a four-year, $60.8 million extension with the team, according to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Broncos hinted at the signing on Twitter, but did not officially confirm it.

The move comes a year after Sutton sustained a torn ACL. He played in just one game during the 2020 NFL season before going down with the injury. Sutton recovered quickly and was able to play in the team's regular-season opener in 2021. He got off to a slow start, catching just one ball in that contest.

It didn't take long for Sutton to prove that was a fluke. Sutton exploded for nine catches and 159 yards in Week 2. He also crossed the 100-yard receiving mark in Week 5 and had 94 yards in Week 6.

Sutton, 26, was selected by the Broncos in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft. After a promising rookie season, Sutton burst onto the scene in 2019, totaling 1,112 receiving yards. Big things were expected from Sutton in 2020, but the torn ACL prevented him from building on his previous success.

With the extension, the Broncos are making it clear they think Sutton will bounce back just as strong — if not stronger — coming off the injury.

Sutton isn't the only Broncos receiver to sign an extension. The team also agreed to a three-year extension with Tim Patrick. The deal is expected to be worth at least $30 million. Patrick can make more if he hits certain incentives in the deal.

The moves ensure two of the three best Broncos receivers will remain with the team in the foreseeable future. The third member of that group — Jerry Jeudy — is only in his second NFL season. If he can deliver on the promise he showed as a rookie, Jeudy will also be in line for a big extension before long.
