'Totally out of the blue': Couple's surprising reaction to massive lottery win

A couple who claimed a healthy division one lotto prize had a rather comedic response to being told the number in their bank account was about to become a whole lot higher.

The pair from Morley, an eastern suburb of Perth, were delivered the incredible news this week after claiming $866,700 in Lotterywest’s Saturday Lotto.

Instead of celebrating with “high fives and champagne” like they always thought they would if they had a big win, the couple said they just “sat there like stunned mullets”.

“It was totally out of the blue,” one of the winners said.

“We bought a lottery ticket, won a small amount and then used that money to buy another Saturday Lotto ticket.”

They also revealed it was a little encouragement from a third party that inspired their decision to buy a ticket in the draw.

A clairvoyant had told them they were about to come into money to the tune of between $500,000 and $600,000.

Understandably, they had no complaints about the $266,700 discrepancy.

The winning ticket was purchased from Carramar Lottery Centre and News in Morley.

WA players have another chance to get their hands on a prize in Thursday’s $20 million Powerball.

Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said each winner had a different story to tell, with one player having a winning ticket stashed in their glovebox for a month, and another who had used the same numbers for 31 years.
