Customers' stomach-churning find in supermarket cake

Stomach-churning videos have shown two seperate customers find live cockroaches inside cakes they purchased from a supermarket.

The videos were filmed just five days apart after two customers bought cakes from two different branches of the mini market chain 99 Speedmart in Malaysia.

The first video was posted online by a man named Sureshgita Vpp, who said he purchased the cake from the supermarket in the town of Puchong in the Petaling District on March 3.

The footage shows a group of around a dozen cockroaches on top of the cake box and he can be heard saying “the cockroaches are still alive, actually we throw some already”.

Some of the roaches can be seen moving and the man is heard saying “terrible” as the clip ends.

Another video was then posted online on March 8 by Abdul Rehman in the ‘We Are Malaysians’ Facebook group.

In the video, he shows his receipt is from 99 Speedmart in Kuala Lumpur.

He then opens the lid to his cake and says “here’s your surprise”.

The camera then shows two cockroaches inside the lid which he says “are still alive”.

Mr Rehman said he asked staff in the supermarket about the incident but they said they cannot stop cockroaches from crawling into the products.

He added that they refused to give him a refund and said the blame was with their suppliers.

Mr Rehman said he wrote a letter of complaint to the supermarket and the bakery who supply the cakes.

He said the bakery collected the cake for evidence in their investigation but says he is yet to get a response from them or the supermarket.
