Couple's million-dollar win after Lotto ticket mix-up

A couple’s unwitting decision to double up on Lotto tickets has paid off after they later pocketed a cool $1 million in a separate draw.

The pair from Albany in WA each bought a Saturday Lotto ticket for the Lottery West draw without the other one being aware.

After discovering her husband had his own ticket, the wife went to their local newsagent to check it on Wednesday.

“I discovered my partner had also bought a Saturday Lotto ticket, so I thought I better go check it,” she recalled.

While she was there, she decided she may as well buy a ticket for the Wednesday Lotto draw.

“I don’t usually play Wednesday Lotto,” she told Lottery West.

But that decision to impulsively purchase a third Lotto ticket at Plaza Lotteries turned into a $1 million windfall.

The winner discovered her fortune after overhearing a conversation about Albany being home to the winning ticket.

Lottery West spokesperson Hermione Coleman said the pair’s big win added to a fruitful month for its players.

“April has been an incredibly lucky month for Wednesday Lotto players, with two winners in the first two weeks,” she pointed out.
