Couple die from Covid leaving behind four kids and unnamed newborn

A husband has died from the Delta Covid variant just weeks after his wife, leaving their five children, including an unnamed newborn, behind.

Davy Macias, 37, from southern California, and her husband Daniel Macias, 39, fell ill with Covid after taking their four kids — aged 7, 5, 3 and 2 — on a family holiday in July.

Davy, a registered nurse who was seven months pregnant at the time, died on August 26 after giving birth to their newborn daughter during an emergency caesarean. She never got to meet her youngest child.

Sadly, Daniel died just two weeks after his wife on Thursday (local time). He was able to briefly meet his fifth child before being intubated three days following her birth.

The couple's family members broke the news on a GoFundMe created to help their children.

"Incredibly sad news. Daniel lost his fight with Covid yesterday afternoon," Terri Serey, Davy Macias's sister-in-law, said.

"There aren't words to explain the loss of both him and Davy. Keep the kids in your thoughts and prayers. They gained two angels but still have a long road ahead of them."

Ms Serey told NBC News Davy and Daniel were "the kindest, most amazing people".

"They were the ones who got everyone together — for every birthday, every holiday."

The family said they have been inundated with clothing, toy and monetary donations by caring locals since announcing the couple's deaths.

While it is unclear if Daniel was vaccinated, family members said Davy had not received the jab because she was pregnant and concerned about the effects.

They are now encouraging everyone to get vaccinated, adding that Davy believed she would quickly heal and return home.

"They never did," Ms Serey said.
