The pup of a recently married couple has been killed in a gruesome act of animal cruelty committed by an intruder who ransacked their home in an early-morning robbery.
Coco the eight-month-old pug was tossed over Nebojsa and Tahnee Vuksan's fence in Spearwood, south of Perth.
The heinous act was allegedly carried out by a 29-year-old man from Geraldton, Nine News reported.
The couple were holidaying in Sydney for the weekend, while Mrs Vuksan's mother stayed at the home to mind the dog.
Some time between 1.30am and 6.30am on Saturday, while the woman was asleep, the house was broken into and had certain areas “rummaged through”, Fremantle Police said.
About 7am that morning, a neighbour discovered the puppy’s lifeless body on the sidewalk outside their home.
The suspect was charged with animal cruelty, aggravated robbery and was due to front Fremantle Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Mrs Vuksan, who is also pregnant, described Coco as her “baby”, saying the dog would always run to greet her at the door.
Mr Vuksan said the pair had been left “absolutely heartbroken” by the cruel death of their beloved pet.
The same man has also been accused of an assault on an elderly woman and thieving her handbag in Bavich Park.
