Couple buys entire town for less than the cost of a family home
A Queensland couple has bought an entire town for less than the price of an average family home.
Peter Peeters and wife Karyn already own a slice of country paradise at Logan, south of Brisbane, but now they’ve bought the real deal for a steal.
Allies Creek is about four hours north-west of Brisbane, and within its 15 acres there are 13 homes, a dam and community hall.
The entire package cost just $550,000.
When Peter told his wife that he was interested in purchasing the town, Karyn’s initial response was disbelief.
“You’re dreaming!” she told him.
Where most saw a rundown town, frozen in time and forgotten, Mr Peeters pictured his family’s future.
“It’s been neglected for quite a long time, so we’ve got a lot of work to do,” Mr Peeters told 7 News.
“My dream is to create an oasis for our three daughters, their husbands, and our grandchildren,” Mrs Peeters said.
A dream they hope can become a tourism destination within two years – complete with a church for outback weddings and workshop for visitors wanting an authentic escape.
Mr Peeters has also been collecting motoring memorabilia for years, and plans to turn one of the old saw mills into a bar using it as the backdrop.
“We’re going to try and create something that has a touch of nostalgia to it and also keep the character of the town,” Mr Peeters said.
