Costly 4WD mistake on popular Aussie tourist island: 'Impossible'
The tourists' attempt to drive through water when visiting the popular K'gari in Queensland had them in stitches, but it was no laughing matter.
A group of tourists had to be rescued after their over-enthusiasm on a popular Aussie island left their four-wheel drive with an electrical issue, forcing them to rely on expensive towing services in the remote location.
The group of men were assisted by Fraser Island Towing over the weekend after their vehicle failed to start on K'gari in Queensland. They were unable to turn to insurance since they had none and, once services towed the men to their destination, the tourists admitted they knew exactly what caused the issue — presenting a video of themselves only a few hours earlier plunging their 4WD into a creek and driving through its depths, giggling throughout the process.
Tourists warned roadside assistance can be 'costly' on K'gari
The large sand island is a popular spot for tourists to explore with its many 4WD tracks and freshwater lakes. However, due to its vastly untouched landscapes and remote location, many "roadside assistance companies won't operate on the island" — meaning any traveller who requires help often need to dig deep into their pockets to receive it.
"It can prove costly to get some help," Kayden from Fraser Island Towing told Yahoo News.

The local company offers assistance packages but says most of the time misguided drivers need to be simply towed off the island.
"It's mostly small things like tyre changes and jump starts... where people do get stuck, it’s going to be impossible most of the time to get proper roadside assistance — you've got to fight the tides, you've got to get back off the island," he explained. "It's usually just easier to get them off the island and get them to a mechanic."
