Coronavirus Victoria: Another milestone hit as restrictions ease

Victoria has gone 10 days without a single new coronavirus case as Melburnians wake to a further easing of restrictions.

That state is now rapidly closing in on having zero active cases across the state, with just four as of Monday.

At the height of the second wave, the state had nearly 7000 active cases, and with the ongoing trend Victoria could hit the magic number within days.

On Sunday, Premier Daniel Andrews unveiled the latest easing of restrictions that has seen the end of the ring of steel around Melbourne, meaning the state’s residents will be allowed to move freely in and out of the city.

There is also no limit on how far Melburnians can travel.

"We know that so many people have missed those that they love the most, those who they need to see, been desperately keen to see, for such a long period of time," Premier Daniel Andrews told reporters on Sunday,” Mr Andrews said on Sunday.

While Mr Andrews said the next set of changes are scheduled for November 22, the trigger point of zero new cases over 14 days for Step Four of the roadmap could be met by Friday.

There are two cases with an unknown source over a two-week period.

There has been zero deaths during the 10-day period, with the death toll in Victoria remaining at 819.

While weekends have typically seen lower testing rates, there were 10,653 test processed in the previous 24 hours.
