'Beyond belief': Man fined for driving 300km to eat a McDonald's Big Mac
Victorian police are “fed up” with the excuses some people have used for breaching stage three lockdown restrictions, describing the behaviour as “appalling”.
Victorian Police Minister Lisa Neville hit out at one man during a press conference on Saturday after he was caught driving more than 300kms for fast food.
"Can I be really clear, just in case there is any doubt at all, that there is absolutely no reason or need to drive from Melbourne to Wodonga to have a Big Mac.
“That is one of the fines that was issued yesterday,” Ms Neville said.
The police minister said while the majority of Victorians are being responsible, a small number continue to flaunt the rules.
"I want to say the overwhelming majority of Victorians every day are doing the right thing … however, we are still continuing to see appalling behaviour that I know Victorians themselves are fed up with and Victoria Police are fed up with," Ms Neville said.
Other fines issued by Victoria police in the last 24 hours include a man was fined for driving from Thornbury to Werribee to “get a haircut from his favourite barber”.
Another was a man who admitted to driving from Melbourne to Ballarat twice “to get some fresh air.”

Shortly after the press conference, the phrases “Big Mac” and “Melbourne to Wodonga” trended on twitter in Australia, with many users questioning why the man needed to drive so far.
“No reason to drive anywhere for a big mac. Far better burgers elsewhere,” one person wrote.
“If you did a run for hours to Wodonga, surely you’d get KFC instead,” another person responded.
“The level of stupid is beyond belief,” an upset twitter user said.
On Saturday, Victoria reported 397 new cases of coronavirus and three deaths.
Of the new cases, 37 are linked with known outbreaks and the remaining 360 are still under investigation, Premier Daniel Andrews said.
