Coronation Street's Summer Spellman to face new boyfriend drama

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Summer Spellman will encounter some drama on Coronation Street as her storyline with her boyfriend Felix intensifies.

The character returned to the cobbled streets of Weatherfield earlier this month after a stint across the Atlantic in the United States, with the character even bringing back a boyfriend in the shape of Felix.

There have been mixed emotions in the family, however, following the news that Paul Foreman had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), with his condition getting worse in recent weeks.

In scenes set to air next week, Summer and Felix will be put in an awkward position after Paul plays a message on his equipment, with the content including some derogatory sentiments towards Felix.

He subsequently leaves with a mortified Summer despite Billy and Todd’s attempts to mute the message, with Summer assuring Felix that she cares for him.

Later in the week, Felix heads back to the US as his trip comes to an end, with Summer confiding to Paul that she found it hard to say goodbye to Felix at the airport. Is there a future for the pair, or will the distance prove too great?...

With Summer returning after some time away, actor Harriet Bibby recently spoke about the latest developments for her character. She shared that she was both scared and excited at the prospect of Summer having a new boyfriend.

“We know Summer's history with boyfriends hasn't been the best,” she said. “But I think that Summer is very sweet and deserves to be happy. We'll see whether she's met her match in terms of intellect and what they both enjoy!

“[Felix is] an intellectual guy. He's studying for a PhD, so I think she likes that they can have conversations about things that other people may not find interesting. Fundamentally she's the same Summer.

“But I feel as if this is the largest chunk of time she's spent away from home as an independent grown-up. So, like any teenager who gets that first moment of freedom, she's grown and come back more independent.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
