The family of a four-year-old boy killed by a 4WD outside a Melbourne medical centre has thanked the public for its support.
Brax Aidan Kyle was killed as he and his father left Epworth Specialist Centre in Berwick on Friday.
Brax was holding his dad's hand when he was struck by the Toyota Landcruiser.
"Our darling Brax was tragically killed in a car accident yesterday," the family said in a statement on Saturday.
"Our family thank the community, extended family and friends for respecting our privacy and for all your love and support."
The family says it plans to hold a private funeral.
Police are still waiting to interview the 56-year-old driver about what caused him to lose control of his vehicle.
After the crash he was taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition.
According to one witness, the driver had just left nearby Casey Hospital after receiving dialysis treatment.
