Cop charged after six people attacked

An off-duty cop has been charged after allegedly assaulting six people, including two police officers.

Police were called to Campbell St, Surry Hills, on Sunday, January 14 following an incident where an off-duty officer allegedly assaulted a man, 51, a woman, 73, and two other off-duty police officers.

The man, 23, was arrested and taken to Surry Hills police station where he allegedly assaulted a Sergeant and bit a constable on his arm.

He was issued a court attendance notice for four counts of common assault and two counts of assaulting a police officer in the execution of duty without actual bodily harm.

The officer is a constable attached to Sydney’s Southwest Metropolitan Region.

He is set to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 30 January 2025.

The officer’s employment status is under review.
