A police officer has been charged after allegedly assaulting a woman and three teenagers inside a shopping centre on the NSW south coast.

Police were attending an incident at the Batemans Bay shopping centre when the senior constable allegedly assaulted the three teenage girls.

The girls were aged 13 and 17, with the senior constable also alleged to have assaulted a 49-year-old woman at the centre.

Following an investigation, police issued the 37-year-old officer with a court attendance notice on Thursday.

He was charged with four counts of common assault and will appear before Batemans Bay Local Court on November 25.

In a statement, NSW Police said the officer was attached to the Southern Command and is suspended without pay.
