Continent that initially escaped Covid records DOZENS of cases in one day
Antarctica is no longer the only continent in the world free from the scourge of coronavirus after 36 Chileans reportedly tested positive for Covid-19.
The sick are members of the Chilean Army base General Bernardo O'Higgins Riquelme in Antarctica, the ABC reported citing Spanish-language media.
The base is located in northwest Antarctica and is far from any of Australia’s bases.
Just recently, construction began on two runways at the Australian-managed Casey Station in case there was a need for medical evacuation.
The Australian Antarctic Program added precautions, such as quarantine, to prevent the spread of Covid-19 through bases.

Australian Antarctic Division director Kim Ellis said a person at Australia’s Davis base will be flown out in the next few days to Hobart.
Their condition isn’t related to Covid-19.
