Concerned passenger films Sydney Trains worker stomping on blind man

Three Sydney Trains workers have been stood down after video emerged showing them rough-handling a visually impaired man on a platform.

The man was allegedly drunk and aggressive when the station manager and a security guard used excessive force to restrain him at Blacktown, in Sydney’s west, on Monday night. One even stomped on the man’s head, knocking him out cold.

A concerned passenger filmed the altercation, which shows the blind man falling to the ground with his guide dog by his side as stunned bystanders watch on.

The man was eventually kicked in the head by the station manager.

It is believed the man had been acting aggressively towards other passengers.

Staff say he became violent when he was removed from the train by rail workers.

“We did have a station staff member who was bitten, we’ve taken him to hospital as a precautionary measure because he did break skin,” Sydney Trains executive director Tony Eid said.

The station duty manager and two security contractors have been stood down following the incident as Sydney Trains investigates the matter.

“That action is unacceptable – that action is something that we do not condone and certainly we don’t train our people to take that sort of action,” Mr Eid said.

While police responded to the incident, they won’t be taking the matter any further because no official complaint has been lodged.

The guide dog was collected by a family member as its owner received medical treatment.
