How a commuter's post about a 'disrespectful' cyclist backfired

A woman who took to social media to shame a cyclist for taking up four seats “during peak hour” has come under fire herself for complaining.

The disgruntled commuter criticised the lycra-clad male in a scathing post to Reddit, sharing a photo of him inside a train in the UK on July 16.

In her post titled “four seat w****r”, the woman expressed her disgust at the man having his feet and belongings taking up an entire booth of four seats.

But other Reddit users took aim at the woman, expressing their confusion at why she didn’t confront the cyclist and instead opted to post about him online.

Many criticised her for not speaking up at the time if it bothered her so much.

“Why don’t you say something to him ya bloody tosser?,” one person asked in a reply to her post.

“God forbid someone walk over and say ‘Mind if I sit here?’ and have him politely move. What an asshole,” another person said.

Someone else flipped the insult back on the woman, saying it was in fact her that was “being a train w***er”.

“Why are you posting this like this guy is some arrogant asshole. If the train is full and you politely asked him to move I would bet money that they would move,” another Reddit user said.

“If the rest of the train isn't busy, mind your own business. I'll be alone on the train and take up enough space to feel comfortable,” someone else wrote.

In another reply, she explained she didn’t feel the need to confront the man at the time because she already had a seat, and insisted he was the rightful recipient of her public shaming.

“I already had a seat. Had I needed to, I would have done what I always do and asked that the person to move their belongings from the seats.

“Our shoes are filthy with all of the stuff we trudge through every day, and the last thing I want to do in the morning is sit in other people's crap.”

She added the man had shown disrespect to other passengers by having his feet and other belongings take up an additional three seats.
