'It's back!' Coles confirms new Little Shop collection to begin next week

The wait for Coles’ highly-anticipated return of Little Shop is nearly over, with the supermarket giant confirming the collectables will return next week.

Thirty miniatures will be available, in a similar promotion that sent Australians young and old into a frenzy to get their hands on all the mini collectables offered in the promotion last July.

“Australians fell in love with Little Shop last year, and yes it’s coming back!” a Coles spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia.

“There will be 30 cute minis to collect and we’ll have more details very soon.”

The supermarket has yet to reveal the specific items that will get the shrinking treatment, but dozens of household names are expected to be involved after brands such as Nutella and Vegemite jumped onboard last year.

Little Shop 2 will be officially unveiled at the Coles’ Westfield Eastgardens store in Sydney’s east this Saturday with 500 collectables to be handed out, but the official start of the promotion will be Wednesday.

Last year’s craze was a huge success for the company, with Coles announcing an impressive boost in profits as a direct result.

Shoppers were entitled to one miniature every $30 spent in store and online, with a similar arrangement expected.

While millions of Australians will be eagerly anticipating their arrival, there will surely be further doubt cast over the supermarket’s commitment to reducing plastic waste.

Shoppers took to social media on Friday to express their views on the upcoming release.

“Get ready to collect them!” one person eagerly told their friend.

“I’m excited,” another said, accompanied by a smiling emoji.

One sceptically added: “More plastic rubbish.”

Many will be keeping an eye on Woolworths following its release, who have responded with their own similar promotions previously in the wake of Coles’ success.

The latest range follows on from Coles Stikeez and last year’s limited edition Little Shop Christmas special.
