'Wish it was mine': Frenzy as rare Coles Little Shop golden trolley listed online for thousands

As collectables mania sweeps the nation, avid followers of Coles’ Little Shop 2 may be tempted to make an offer for an elusive golden shopping trolley which has appeared on eBay.

The rare miniature, of which Coles only releases 100 a week and comes with a bonus $100 store voucher, was listed on the auction site on Tuesday with a starting price of $5000.

One South Australian shopper has managed to get their hands on the bonus Little Shop collectable and has given fanatics seven days to consider how serious they are about collecting the full set.

While many have said the listing price is excessive, its owner’s attempt to cash in on the rare miniature is far less audacious as an attempt earlier this year to get $20,000 for a rare golden banana which was part of the Stikeez promotion.

Little Shop fans were quick to react to the listing, many in awe of the lucky recipient.

“I wish it was mine,” one person declared.

“Wow, lucky duck whoever found it,” another said.

There have been no bids on the trolley as of Wednesday morning.

A Coles spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia the promotion is “as popular as ever.”

“We saw customers lining up outside stores last week waiting for them to open so they could get the popular Little Shop 2 merchandise as soon as they could,” they said.

The spokesperson said each golden trolley comes with a unique code and collectors case.

Coles has been strict on its handing out of Little Shop minis, which customers are entitled to receive one per every $30 in store.

Several customers have complained about spending a few cents from the amount to not receive a miniature.

For Woolworths however, their promotion, Lion King Ooshies, appear to be flying off the shelves with shoppers taking advantage of bonus products which can see customers walk away with 17 Ooshies for just $30 spent in store
