Coles issues urgent recall of popular seafood item

A popular Coles brand seafood item is being recalled as a precaution due to incorrect labelling.

The supermarket giant is recalling the Coles Tasmanian Smoked Salmon 150g, with the used by date of 07 April 2023, which is incorrect.

The smoked salmon had been sold at Coles supermarkets and online in Victoria, with the exception of Mildura, and Western Australia.

"The recall has been actioned as a precaution because the product was incorrectly labelled with a Use By date of 07 April 2023, instead of 07 May 2021," Coles said in a recall notice.

"While the product is currently safe to eat, customers should not consume the product beyond the correct Use by date of 07 May 2021."

Food Safety Australia said consuming the smoked salmon after May 7, 2021, could result in illness.

Customers are able to return the salmon affected by the recall to a Coles Supermarket for a full refund, while Coles Online customers can contact Coles Online Customer Care on 1800 455 400 to receive a refund.

"We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience," Coles said.

"Customers seeking further information can contact Coles Customer Care on 1800 061 562."
