Coles deal on popular item sparks frenzy: '10 boxes for $30'

A Coles online special has sent shoppers into an absolute frenzy after offering up heavily discounted cans of soft drinks. The online-only deal is available on all Kirks 10-can boxes at $14.80 for two, instead of the usual price of $10 per box until Tuesday 29 November.

Flybuys members receive an additional saving of $3 per box, bringing the price down to $4.40 each. A Black Friday deal code was also available, bringing the price down even lower.

Hundreds of Coles shoppers rushed to grab the special, many stocking up for the festive season following a huge spike in soft drink prices of almost 70 cents per litre since the start of the year.

"We are set for Christmas for our large family and New Year's Eve which is also my daughter's 16th. Used the code Black Friday for $20 off plus got the Flybuys $3 off per box," one customer wrote on the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook page.

Cheaper in some states

Due to the container deposit scheme being available in some states and not others, the deal varied between regions, with shoppers in Victoria and Queensland scoring larger discounts. "I got mine for $2.45 a 10-pack" a Gold Coast Flybuys member wrote.

"It's $3 per box in Victoria as the deal here is 2 for $12! So two boxes for $6 ($3 each). I ordered 10 boxes (5 x $12 for $60) then $3 off each box (3 x 10 = $30). 10 boxes for $30," commented another customer.

Cancelled orders

Although hundreds of shoppers were able to nab the deal, others were left disappointed and unable to get their order or only part of their order as stock began to sell out across stores. "13 out of my 16 boxes of soft drinks were cancelled. Very disappointed!" one person wrote, while another added, "Some people are ordering massive amounts multiple times and have been over the past few days so now they have no stock. I put in an order for six to collect tomorrow and got cancelled."

Despite so many cancelled orders, many shoppers are holding out hope to score the online deal before it ends. Some said they'd keep trying the deal at different stores, hoping stock would be replenished in time.

Coles promises more sales

"Coles launched a big online sale last week as part of Black Friday and we also had Flybuys Members Pricing available in the month of November," a Coles spokesperson told Yahoo News. "By combining these offers, customers were able to get really great deals across the store. We are always looking to inspire our customers and will have many more exciting sales in the future."

If you miss out on the special deal at Coles, Woolworths also recently launched a buy more and save special on Kirks soft drinks, offering one 10-pack for $9, two for $16 and three for $21.
