We're always told it's important to eat your greens— and apparently this applies to birds as well.
A Coles shopper was shocked to see a pigeon inside a Coles store in Northcote Plaza, located in Melbourne's inner north.
The video of the pigeon pecking at broccolini was posted to TikTok, seemingly unbeknown to shoppers going about their business on the other side of the aisle.
The video has been viewed more than 114,000 times with over 10,000 likes and hundreds of people commenting on the clip.
Some users laughed at the unexpected shopper, many pointing out the pigeon was violating health orders by not wearing a mask.
"She's just doing inventory," one user said.
"Good staff is increasingly hard to find," another joked.
Other TikTok users said the video proved why you should always wash fruit and vegetables when you bring them home.
"If you weren't convinced to wash your veg before use, you probably are now," one person pointed out.
A Coles spokesperson said the supermarket took "food safety seriously".
"We work hard to keep a clean environment in our stores," a Coles spokerperson told Yahoo News Australia.
"We have an integrated pest management system, which primarily focuses on keeping pests out of our stores, then controlling pests should they find their way into our stores.
"We were concerned to see this vision and have reached out to the store so we can address the issue.”
Snake spotted on spice shelf in Woolworths
It's not the first time wildlife has wandered into an Australian supermarket.
Last month, a snake was spotted on the spice shelf of a Woolworths store in northwest Sydney, shocking shoppers as it slithered out.
A Woolworths spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia at the time staff acted "quickly and safely" when they were alerted to the unexpected visitor.
"A slippery and rare customer was spotted in the spice aisle of our Glenorie store," the spokesperson said.
"Once it was sighted, our team members reacted quickly and calmly to cordon off the area for the safety of customers.
"A snake catcher removed the slithery customer, who was released safely into bushland shortly after."
