Two pasta sauces have been pulled from Coles and Woolworths shelves due to an “undeclared allergen”.
Both Coles Italia Pesto Al Basilico Basil Pesto and Woolworths Providore Italian Tomatoes and Grana Padano Cheese Pesto are being recalled due to peanuts being used in the sauces while not explicitly saying so.
Coles Italia Pesto Al Basilico Basil Pesto in 290g, which is manufactured in Italy, has been sold at Coles supermarkets across Australia, and customers should look out for jars with the best before date of 28/08/2021.
“Consumers who have a peanut allergy or intolerance should not consume this product,” the food recall release issued by Food Standards Australia and New Zealand says.
“Customers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full cash refund. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
The 195g Providore Italian Tomatoes and Grana Padano Cheese Pesto is manufactured in Italy by Simplot and has been sold at Woolworths stores nationally and affected products have the best before date of September 30, 2022.
“The recall applies only to the above product with the nominated size and best before date. This recall is being undertaken to ensure the safety of our consumers,” the food recall release says, while apologising for “any inconvenience”.
The food recall also states customers with a peanut allergy or intolerance should not consume the sauce and, like the Coles sauce, customers can return their item to the place of purchase to receive a full refund, or can alternatively dispose of the sauce.
