Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal will settle their beef at UFC 272. Both fighters verbally agreed to the fight, and the non-title bout is nearly finalized, UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell told ESPN on Tuesday.

The fight will be added to the March 5 card after two anticipated matches were postponed. Max Holloway pulled out of his featherweight title fight against Alexander Volkanovski due to an injury. Aljamain Sterling versus Petr Yan was also postponed, Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole reports.

Sterling-Yan will now take place at UFC 273 in April. Volkanovski will fight Chang Sung Jung at that event, according to Ariel Helwani.

That leaves Covington-Masvidal as the headliner for UFC 272.

Colby Covington-Jorge Masvidal have rivalry

Covington and Masvidal used to be friendly, but the two experienced a falling out. Masvidal claimed in 2019 the issue started after Covington "ripped off" their coach. Covington claimed the falling out happened due to Masvidal's jealousy and ego.

The situation escalated over the years. In November, Covington said he wanted to end Masvidal's career. Covington also posted images on social media with Masvidal's ex-wife. Covington got personal, calling Masvidal a bad father.

Covington is 16-3 since joining UFC. He's lost two of his last three fights, the most recent of which came against welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in November. Masvidal is 35-15 with UFC. He lost his last two fights, both against Usman.
