Climate change is already clobbering Australia's economy as the prime minister seeks to form a climate deniers' club, Greens leader Christine Milne says.
While visiting Canada Tony Abbott has said measures to tackle the climate issue "shouldn't clobber the economy".
Senator Milne says natural disasters and a brain drain are already hurting Australia's economic health.
"Climate denial is clobbering the economy," she told reporters in Hobart on Tuesday.
"Climate change is clobbering the economy and it's time that some common sense clobbered Tony Abbott."
Senator Milne accused the prime minister of colluding with Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper to keep climate off the G20 agenda and scupper a global treaty by 2015.
"Our prime minister is seeking to put together a climate deniers' club," Senator Milne said.
She said Mr Abbott would face opposition to his climate policies when he met US President Barack Obama, who recently announced plans to reduce power station emissions.
"The last thing (the president) needs is a climate denier from Australia turning up giving comfort to the Tea Party," Senator Milne said.
