Cleveland State won it’s first conference title in more than a decade on Tuesday night when it beat Oakland 80-69 in the Horizon League championship game.
Naturally, assistant coach Dru Joyce couldn’t help but channel his inner-LeBron James while cutting down the nets.
Cleveland State will now head to its third NCAA tournament next week, and first since 2009 — an impressive turnaround for the Vikings after five straight seasons with at least 20 losses. They reached the Horizon League championship game after a huge triple-overtime win over Purdue Fort Wayne, too.
Joyce — who played with James at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron for four years before joining Cleveland State's staff in 2019 — perfectly recreated the moment when James celebrated his first NBA Finals win after returning to play for the Cavaliers in 2016.
Considering the tournament run, and the way he belted it out, Joyce undoubtedly did James’ iconic Cleveland moment justice.
Or, if you ask him, he outshined his former teammate.
