Classic Aussie chocolate bar to be revived

An Aussie favourite stripped from shelves across the country is set to make a triumphant return after a decade.

The Polly Waffle – a waffle wafer tube filled with marshmallow and covered in chocolate – was created in Melbourne in 1947 and later manufactured by Nestlè until it was discontinued in 2009.

South Australian confectioner Robern Menz, the company that last year revived the Violet Crumble, will now take ownership of the brand, trademark and famous recipe under an agreement with food production giant Nestlè.

Robern Menz chief executive Phil Sims said there had been strong public support for the Polly Waffle’s revival.

“There are kids and even young adults out there who don’t really know what a Polly Waffle is and haven’t tasted it before,” he said.

“But there are also many devoted fans who have been campaigning hard for its return.”

Mr Sims said the company would embrace the challenge of re-introducing the bar to the local market.

“As an Australian family-owned business, we have a real affinity for local brands and to have the opportunity to revive them and bring them back into the market is such a privilege,” he said.

“We also love a challenge and are honoured to be the business that gets the chance to try to bring back the Polly Waffle.”
