Christmas Day tragedy as toddler is killed in quad bike accident

A two-year-old boy has died following a fatal quad bike crash in northeast Victoria.

The boy was a passenger on the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) when it crashed at a Barnawartha North property at about 11.50am on Friday, police said.

Following the crash, the boy was thrown from the vehicle, investigators were told.

Victoria Police said in a statement said the boy was trapped under the ATV and witnesses were able to free the boy and attempt to revive him.

Tragically, the toddler died at the scene.

Victoria Police said the crash occurred on a private property on Moss Road in Barnawartha North, which is located near the NSW-Victoria border.

The driver is assisting police with enquiries and the exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined.
