'Serious injury or death': Christmas candle holder recalled over fire hazard

A Christmas decoration has been recalled over fears it poses a fire hazard and could cause “serious injury or death.”

The festive Christmas wreath-shaped candle holder was recalled by the Product Safety Australia division of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on Monday.

It comes after 144 units were sold in New South Wales and Western Australia between August 1, 2016 and November 1, 2018.

Product Safety Australia warns that the Rudolphs Christmas Holly & Berry Advent Wreath Candle Holde could catch fire.

“The wreath surrounding the candle holder could catch fire and remain alight,” Product Safety Australia wrote in a statement on Monday.

Product Safety Australia says the decoration could cause “potential burns or fire causing property damage” and warns “serious injury or death could occur.”

The 30cm wreath is adorned with holly, berries and gold-coloured candle holders.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the product, and return it to their place of purchase for a refund.

It comes after a Big W wreath candle holder was recalled in November with fears the product could spark a fire.
