As a tight-knit community comes to terms with the "horrific" death of a 10-year-old schoolgirl, that a detective described as "one of the most confronting" cases he's ever seen, bizarre TikTok videos have surfaced allegedly made by the child's mother in the lead-up to the tragedy.

Shockwaves were sent across Australia yesterday after Yingying Xu, 46 was charged with the murder of her daughter Sophie Wang, who was allegedly killed in their home in Emerald Lakes on the Gold Coast on Tuesday evening.

It's understood Xu's husband, Griffith University academic Dr Yun Wang discovered the mutilated body of Sophie just after 6pm. Xu was found at a nearby residence at 10.25pm later that night, with detectives laying murder charges shortly after.

First responders attending the scene were reportedly left in tears upon finding Sophie with her throat slashed, with neighbours reporting hearing Dr Wang's "haunting" screams after he made the chilling discovery.

A spokesperson for Gold Coast Police confirmed to Yahoo on Thursday morning detectives have been looking into Xu’s "social media accounts as part of their investigation".

TikTok videos allegedly made by Xu, under the account name uxyingemily, surfaced on Wednesday.

In at least one video obtained by The Courier Mail, dubbed in English, the devil is referenced a number of times in a strange and nonsensical rant.

While her TikTok video is still cached by Google, Xu's TikTok account appears to have been removed from the platform as police continue their investigations.

Detective Acting Inspector Kent Ellis said the scene was "incredibly confronting", with members of both the Queensland Police Service and paramedics receiving support in the aftermath. "In my 15-year career as a detective it’s one of the most confronting scenes I have seen," he told media on Wednesday.

"We understand that this is going to cause distress amongst the community, but can I please remind the community that there is no one outstanding, and there is no ongoing community safety concern at this time."
