"I’m A Latina, And I’m Voting For Trump This Election": Children Of Immigrants Are Sharing Why They Voted

The topic of immigration has had a stronghold on the election cycle this year, specifically regarding the border. Of course, President-Elect Donald Trump's previous solution to build a wall failed miserably, so it's surprising that some are willing to still believe that he actually has a plan in motion to address the issues on their minds.
However, Trump's promises of mass deportation and his general attitude toward immigrants have been rooted in xenophobia and racism. Let's not forget that he and his running mate, J.D. Vance, tried to convince Americans that illegal Haitian immigrants were eating cats in Springfield, OH. Turns out that the Haitian immigrants in the community were legal nor were there any reports of cats being eaten.
There are several examples of the Republicans trying to create fear among Americans to secure their votes. However, their words have real impacts, especially for immigrants.
Still, there seems to be a divide surrounding the strict immigration policies that Trump has presented, especially among immigrants and the children of immigrants.
On one hand, some feel as though undocumented immigrants entering America should be given a pathway to citizenship. On the other, the Republicans' stance on immigration and border policies has resonated with first and second-generation immigrants who feel as though the only way to stay in America is through legal channels, regardless of the circumstances.
I recently asked the children of immigrants in the BuzzFeed Community to share the issues that are concerning them the most this election. Here's what they had to say.
1."I’m a Latina and I’m voting for Trump this election. My top issues of the election are the economy and the border crisis."
2."Genocide in Gaza."
3."I’m the daughter of immigrants, voting for Kamala Harris for all the reasons. I was raised Republican, but realized how much I disagreed with the GOP as a college student."
4."Government in schools. Kids need to learn normal things like math and reading. And funnily enough, immigration."
5."I'm a single-issue voter this year and that issue is Gaza. My parents are from Palestine, and seeing their faces every time they open social media and see how their home country has been devastated is heartbreaking."
6."Trump’s racism and hate for immigrants is something that I can’t stand for."
7."Human rights."
8."What’s going on at the border is actively making it harder for people who want to get in the legal way to get in and fueling hate towards them because people are just feeling generally anti-immigrant."
9."Illegal immigration."
"I understand that the intentions of those who are coming into this country aren't one-size-fits-all, but there is very much a right and a wrong way to do things. And doing it the wrong way undermines the rights of our family members who have put in the work to earn those rights."
MSNBC’s Morning Joe crew on Monday reacted with horror to Donald Trump’s decision to pick Kash Patel to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The choice of Patel, a lawyer who served in several roles in the president-elect’s first administration, set off a firestorm of criticism in part because of his promotion of conspiracy theories and calls for retribution against Trump’s opponents in a second term. To underscore the point, Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough repeatedly asked for a clip t
Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said he barred the ex-Israeli minister from coming to Australia due to concerns her views could “undermine social cohesion”.
The wall is no longer Trump’s central idea, and it never really slowed migration, but it continues to put lives at risk, cost billions, and harm the environment. And with Trump returning to office, the border wall may take center stage once again, Josh Marcus reports.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has accused China of providing Russia with weapons for its war against Ukraine and threatening peace in Europe and the Indo-Pacific. “Instead of taking responsibility for peace and security in the world as a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, China is opposing our core European interests with its economic and weapons aid to Russia,” Baerbock said in a statement ahead of a visit to Beijing.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved a record-breaking defense budget, setting aside a staggering third of the government’s total spending as the war in Ukraine drains resources from both sides nearly three years on.
Beijing said it could take countermeasures against Lithuania as it strongly condemned and protested over the decision by Vilnius to expel three Chinese diplomats. The Chinese foreign ministry hit out at Lithuania on Monday, days after the Baltic country declared three staff members of the Chinese representative office to the country as personae non gratae, and required them to leave the country within a week. In the Chinese statement, the ministry said Lithuania's decision was "without any reaso
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) heaped praise on MAGA billionaire Elon Musk’s plans to rein in defense spending as part of his Trump-appointed mission to find ways to slash government spending. “Elon Musk is right,” tweeted Sanders on Sunday. “Last year, only 13 senators voted against the Military Industrial Complex and a defense budget full of waste and fraud. That must change.” That makes Sanders, a democratic socialist who twice came in second for the Democratic Party presidential nomination, a st
