A 12-year-old boy is being remembered as a “bright spirit who touched so many lives” after he died from his injuries following a collision with a car while riding an e-scooter.

Police believe Khye Brickell was riding an e-scooter when he collided with a car at the intersection of Betula Ave and Childs Rd shortly after 6pm on Wednesday.

The driver of the car, a 34-year-old Greensborough man, stopped at the scene to assist.

The Mill Park Primary School student will be greatly missed by his classmates and teachers.

“Khye’s kindness and bright spirit touched so many lives in our school, and now we have an opportunity to show his family that they are not alone,” the school said in a statement.

“Khye joined our school in Prep and was known for his kindness, bright smile, and caring nature. “He brought joy to everyone around him and will be deeply missed by his classmates, teachers, and all who knew him.

“Our thoughts are with Khye’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.

“Rest peacefully, Khye. You will always be in our hearts.”

Kye loved to ride BMX, and his club, Northern BMX Club, stated his memory would live on with those who rode beside him.

“The Brickell family were foundational members of our club, and their dedication and passion were instrumental in re-establishing BMX in the north,” the club shared on social media.

“Though they have taken a break from BMX recently, the impact of the entire family on our club’s formation is immeasurable.

“Their commitment as a family to Northern BMX will forever be etched in our hearts.

“Even in this tragedy, Khye’s spirit of generosity shines through.

“At just 12 years old, his selfless decision to be an organ donor has already saved lives of other children, a testament to his incredible character.

“Khye, you will forever be remembered in our hearts, your infectious enthusiasm and bright smile will be deeply missed by all who knew you. Ride on, little champion.”

A GoFundMe page has been created by Rail Safeworking Solutions, where Khye’s father, Lee, works, to help support the family during this difficult time.

“As they navigate this unimaginable grief, we want to come together to support them during this difficult time,” the GoFundMe stated.

“This Christmas, let’s help Lee and Kim (Khye’s mother) take the time they need to heal with their family.

“Donations will ease the financial burden of funeral expenses and daily costs, allowing them to focus on what matters most: each other.”

The fundraiser has already raised more than $48,000 of its $10,000 goal at the time of publication.

Khye’s death marks the 258th death on Victorian roads this year.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or who has footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
