Chelsea face having to hand back a whopping £16.3million to broadcasters for finishing in the top four last season.

The Premier League have published the anticipated breakdown of how much each club will have to hand back to broadcasters as part of the £330million rebate agreed due to last season being suspended for 100 days following the coronavirus pandemic.

Each club will pay back around 10.7 per cent of the broadcast payments owed to them for last season. The final payments from broadcast deals are made up of a basic share awarded to each club, before merit payments for finishing place and the amount of times each club were picked for live TV are added on.

The calculations mean that the final reductions don't quite reflect the final standings. So while Chelsea finished a place behind Manchester United last season, they will pocket £700,000 more than Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

The Blues will have to pay back more than any side in London having finished top dogs in the capital, however. Despite finishing two places below Tottenham in eighth, Arsenal will still have to pay back more than Spurs. The red half of north London are set to hand back £15million while Daniel Levy will hand back £200,000 less than his rivals.

Champions Liverpool will have to hand back £17.3million while relegated Norwich will see their revenue drop by £7.1million.
