'Check your glasses': Road rule quiz sparks fiery debate

It was supposed to test drivers knowledge and create some discussion but a seemingly innocent road rules quiz has sparked a fiery debate and calls for licences to be stripped.

Four cars, one intersection and a basic driving manoeuvre – that was the scenario given to Facebook users by the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ).

With multiple choice answers, the instruction seemed pretty simple – but when Facebook users started turning on each other, the organisation had to step in and plead for things to be kept “civil”.

So even if you think you can figure this one out, you better be prepared to argue your answer.

The quiz shows four cars, three of them are travelling in the same direction through a green light, while attempting to change from the left lane to the right.

The red car has already moved into the intersection with its indicator on, while the pink and blue cars are still behind the white line with the same intentions.

The question asks people to identify “which vehicle, or vehicles, are performing an illegal manoeuvre?”

The options are:

a. Red and pink

b. Red

c. Pink

d. Blue

The response was far from a unified one.

“Pink n red. If u think otherwise, who passed your licence,” one person wrote.

“These questions should be ways to remove some people’s license

“All three are wrong. You are not supposed to change lane within 30 meters of an intersection,” said another.

Others suggested the cyclist, who is neither pictured or mentioned, is somehow at fault.

RACQ eventually revealed the answer, however it was far from the popular choice.

Pink, as the image shows a vehicle crossing a continuous line separating the lanes, which is illegal,” they wrote.

“With the red car, while we don’t advise people cross lanes at an intersection, it is not illegal to do so.”

But even the correct answer wasn’t enough to defuse the hostile comments thread, that saw already agitated Facebook users turn on the organisation.

RACQ It is illegal to change lanes in a round-about so why should an intersection be any different?!” One person wrote.

“Changing lanes in an intersection isn’t illegal you pelicans,” another responded.

“Even though my answer maybe wrong I still wouldn’t change lanes until I was through the intersection,” another said.

A similar quiz from the RACQ in December asking who goes first at an intersection also sparked a heated debate.
