Charges after Spirit of Tasmania drug find

Two alleged Bandidos motorcycle gang members are accused of trafficking drugs on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry.

The men, aged 21 and 51, were arrested in Hobart's northern suburbs on Tuesday after police seized 700g of methylamphetamine from the vessel in December.

The development comes amid a widespread police crackdown on the Bandidos gang in Tasmania which included raids of a business and fishing boats in a southern coastal town last week.

Five people have now been charged in connection with the investigation.

"This operation has significantly disrupted the criminal activities of those linked to (outlawed motorcycle gangs) in Tasmania," Detective Inspector Nikala Parsons said.

The two men are expected to appear in Hobart Magistrates Court on drug trafficking charges in August.
