A man and a woman have been charged over a violent home invasion south of Perth that ended with the theft of the resident's car.

Police say three men forced their way into the 36-year-old man's Mandurah home armed with a hammer on June 25, assaulted him, threatened him with a knife and ransacked the property, then stole his vehicle.

On Wednesday, a 24-year-old man was charged over the theft and possessing illegal drugs, while a 28-year-old woman was also charged with stealing the vehicle.

Police say investigations are ongoing and further charges may be laid.
