Seven slammed for 'offensive' coronavirus special

Channel Seven brought together "the country's leading business minds and decision makers to plot a path forward for all Australians" in their live TV event called Surviving the Crash, however, viewers were less than impressed with the coronavirus special, with some going so far as to call it "offensive".

Seven revealed they would be conducting a "dynamic round table" moderated by 7News' political editor Mark Riley and network finance editor Gemma Acton to discuss how people can get through the coronavirus pandemic.

Viewers were quick to share their thoughts on the live TV special with many saying it was simply "fear mongering" and offered no actual advice for those suffering amid the pandemic.

One user wrote, "This show is f***ing offensive to human intelligence."

Another added, "15 minutes in and this is the biggest waste of airtime ever. Utterly pointless."

Someone else wrote, "Did they name the show that as it is actually a car crash we’re watching?"

Another said, "Watching #SurvivingTheCrash is reminding me just how many biased morons channel seven touts as experts."

One added, "#SurvivingTheCrash is a fear mongering, anti-Lockdown, conservative's delight. Interviewing former lib leaders... Even Gina sent in a vid with her requests..."

Some also pointed out the fact that while it was a special about the effects of COVID-19, none of the panelists were social distancing.

One user said, "Good to see social distancing means nothing to this program? A program dedicated to the pandemic and they are all sitting on each others laps. Didn't think this through did you Channel 7?"

Another added, "Am I the only one who’s noticed the panel aren’t social distancing?"

Others didn't appreciate having billionaire Gina Reinhart tell them how to get by during the pandemic or saying that Australia should follow US President Donald Trump's lead and "cut government taxes, cut government tape".

"Billionaires telling people on minimum & low to medium salaries how to #SurvivingTheCrash... this show is a crock of s***. Waste of media space," one said.

Another wrote, "You have to hand it to Gina Reinhart. The only billionaire to have the balls to still ask for a tax cut during a pandemic."

Someone else joked, "Gina Reinhart wanting tax breaks? Next we'll be hearing from a fox saying all chicken gates should be left open at night in case they want to take a walk in the middle of the night."

While the program began with an interview with a couple who had lost their jobs due to the pandemic, some users were wondering why there weren't more stories like this.

One user wrote, "Where was a family who had lost loved ones due to #covid19? This is a pandemic btw. People die. Shocking show."

Not quite the response Seven was likely after.
