Celebrity Chef José Andrés Sets Record Straight After Being 'Fired' by Trump
José Andrés is speaking out after President Donald Trump claimed he "fired" the celebrity chef shortly after taking office on Jan. 20.
Andrés, 55, was one of four "Presidential Appointees from the previous Administration” who “are not aligned with our vision to Make America Great Again," Trump, 78, said in a post via Truth Social just after midnight on Tuesday, Jan. 21, in which he also named Mark Milley, Brian Hook and Keisha Lance Bottoms. The former Apprentice star also wrote that his office is "actively in the process of identifying and removing over a thousand" more appointees.
"I submitted my resignation last week…my 2 year term was already up," Andrés wrote via X, adding that he was "honored to serve as co-chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition" and was "proud" of what he and his fellow council members "accomplished on behalf of the American people."
The World Central Kitchen founder continued, "I hope @realdonaldtrump exercises his presidential authority so the Council can continue to advocate for fitness and good health for all Americans. These are bipartisan issues…nonpartisan issues. May God give you the wisdom, Mr. President, to put politics and name calling aside…and instead lift up the everyday people working to bring America together. Let’s build longer tables…"
I submitted my resignation last week…my 2 year term was already up 🤷♂️😅
I was honored to serve as co-chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. My fellow council members - unpaid volunteers like me - were hardworking, talented people who inspired me… https://t.co/8U1l7IoYVp— Chef José Andrés 🕊️🥘🍳 (@chefjoseandres) January 21, 2025
Social media users were quick to praise the renowned chef and philanthropist for his work with the White House over the last couple years, with some simultaneously taking jabs at Trump.
"Trump pretending to fire people who already resigned is on brand," wrote one X user, while another added, "José Andrés is one of the world's best humanitarians, helping feed people suffering from natural disasters, war, poverty etc. The fact that Trump doesn't like him says all you need to know about Trump."
Andrés was first appointed by former President Barack Obama as an ambassador for citizenship and naturalization in 2015 before Joe Biden, whose four-year term just ended, appointed the chef as co-chair of the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition in 2022.
