CCTV shows final moments of newlyweds murdered while camping

CCTV footage has emerged of a newlywed couple at a bar with friends the night before they went missing and were later found shot dead.

The bodies of Crystal Turner, 38, and Kylen Schulte, 24, were found last week at a campsite near Moab, a desert town in Utah, US, where they were living.

Investigators believe someone killed the women and fled the area, KUTV reported.

Friends and family members have said the couple, who married in April, had been “freaked out” by a “weirdo” staying at a campsite near theirs in the days before their deaths.

One of the last people to see Crystal and Kylen alive, friend Kayla Borza, told the Daily Beast the couple shared their concerns when they all met up at a local bar the night before they went missing.

CCTV footage captures couple's last moments

CCTV at Woody’s Tavern in Moab shows the pair laughing and joking with a third woman before buying drinks and sitting down at a table.

Bar manager Arielle Beck told the publication Crystal and Kylen visited the tavern once or twice a month but weren’t big drinkers. She said the women arrived around 6pm on August 13 and left around 9pm, adding that “nobody followed them out the door”.

It was the last time anyone saw them alive.

“We were just having a great time, having a couple drinks, and all they said was there was a creep [staying] next to them,” Ms Borza told the Daily Beast.

“And that was it.

“I don’t know why the creep wanted to kill them.”

The women were found shot dead on August 18, police told local publications.

Friend finds couple's bodies at campsite

Despite friends and family said they initially weren’t concerned when no one heard from the couple because they know how to take care of themselves in the bush, Kylen’s dad called another Moab resident and friend of the pair, Cindy Sue Hunter, for help after three days.

“He said ‘I just found out that there was a creeper dude that they were scared of. That they needed to move their camp’,” Ms Hunter told ABC4.

“All of a sudden I had such a sense of urgency.”

With Kylen’s dad on the phone, Ms Hunter found the couple’s campsite.

“Then I saw her body and I turned away,” Ms Hunter said.

“I think something inside me didn’t want to acknowledge what I had seen so I was looking at the beauty of the creek and everything, and talking to the father the whole time and I turned around again to make myself see and it was her.”

Police are investigating the shooting. Federal and state authorities are now helping the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, ABC4 reports.

Anyone in the community who might have information about the women’s deaths have been urged to come forward.

Crystal and Kylen were remembered with flowers and candles at a vigil on Sunday (local time) at the Moonflower Community Cooperative, where the latter worked, in Moab.
