Shocking video shows 'brutal attack' on heavily pregnant woman at cafe

Shocking footage has emerged of the moment a heavily pregnant woman was allegedly assaulted by a stranger at a cafe in Sydney’s west.

The clip, obtained by 7News, shows a man approach the 31-year-old, who was sat with friends at a table at an eatery on Church Street in Parramatta.

Police allege a 43-year-old male began punching the 31-year-old, who is 38 weeks pregnant, in the head before stomping on her head while she fell to the ground.

The footage shows bystanders rush to the aid of the woman, trying to restrain the alleged attacker.

The man was eventually held by patrons until police arrived.

He has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Thursday.

The woman remains in hospital for observation where she appears to be “emotionally and physically traumatised”, Parramatta police Inspector Lucas Sywenkyj told reporters.

Inspector Sywenkyi said the attack appeared to be “completely random and unprovoked” and police were investigating if the attack was racially motivated.
