Cat travels 120 kilometres wedged in the air vent of family car

A stunned family has discovered a surprise stowaway who hitched a ride on their 120 kilometre car journey.

Steve Kane, from Hertfordshire, UK, was heading on holiday with his family when he noticed a cat wedged behind his car’s grill, the BBC reported.

The tabby, nicknamed Ford after the manufacturer of Mr Kane’s car, was pulled to safety by breakdown cover provider the AA after removing the headlight and bumper, RSPCA inspector Lucy Brennan said.

It is believed the cat may have been trapped for up to two days before Mr Kane spotted Ford during a stop in Essex.

“He was very smelly and very hungry,” Ms Brennan said.

“The AA explained that even if the cat had been trapped when the motorist was driving the car, luckily the area he was in has no moving parts and doesn’t get hot when the engine is on.”

The RSPCA is now pleading for its owner to come forward, or they will have to put Ford up for adoption.

Ms Brennan also revealed the cat’s tail was injured during the incident and will need to be amputated.
