Caring policeman captured going beyond the call of duty

A police officer has been praised for his actions after images of him cradling a baby went viral.

West Jordan Police Department in the US state of Utah shared the photos on Facebook on Thursday after a mother entered the station to file a domestic violence report.

Robert Lofgran took up the task of looking after the woman’s baby, with the officer caring for the child for several hours while the mother “got the help she needed for that day”.

“He spent hours on this call. Thank you for your service!” the department wrote online.

Sgt Alex Earelli told CTVNews Officer Lofgran’s actions were commonplace within the force.

“It’s often where officers do step in to try and help out with providing any type of resource so the parents or the victims can get assistance,” he said.

The Facebook post was awash with people heaping praise on Officer Lofgran.

“This is beautiful!! Such kind help in a moment of stress and fear for the mother,” one user wrote.

“What a great person. THANK YOU for your service!!!!” another said.

Last year a police officer in China was praised for his selfless act when he gave up his clothes to keep an abandoned baby warm during freezing temperatures.
