Carer 'kicks and wounds' 93-year-old woman who falls off her bed

A carer is facing serious charges after police say she physically abused a 93 year-old woman.

The 64-year-old is accused of kicking the elderly woman who had fallen off her bed, and according to police the kick led to bruising and a deep gash to the victim’s leg, the Miami Herald reports.

Miami Police shared a short video clip to Twitter on Monday evening (local time) and said they have arrested Martha DiazSanchez, who local media reports has been identified as the caregiver.

The caregiver, who was hired as a live-in carer about a fortnight ago, allegedly called the woman’s daughter and said that her mother had fallen from bed, WPLG Local10.com reports.

Members of the victim’s family then watched security footage taken from a camera set up inside the victim’s room, and allegedly spotted the carer kicking the victim after she slipped and fell.

The footage released by police appears to show the woman using a mop to clean blood off the floor when the elderly woman is back in bed.

“At the end of the day we all have parents and grandparents who don’t deserve that kind of treatment,” Kiara Delva, a spokeswoman for Miami police, told the Miami Herald.

The 64-year-old has reportedly been charged with aggravated battery on a victim older than 65, elderly abuse and tampering with evidence.
