Caravanning couple's 'cool' $40 Temu solution to common issue while camping
It appears there are 'definitely' more caravans on our roads in 2024 compared to previous years, experts claim.
Caravanning is trending right now in Australia, with families and couples all over the country taking to the open road in droves.
In most caravans and motorhomes, there's almost all the essentials already built in to set travellers up for nomadic life, but sometimes you do have to stop for groceries, to refuel and do a quick clothes wash.
While pulling over for supplies is inevitable, one Aussie couple, currently touring the nation in their caravan, found a handy way to wash their garments on the run — all thanks to Temu. Taking to social media, Peter and Torhild Parkinson shared their success using the device.
"Want to see something cool," Peter said online. "12 volt off-grid, $40 Temu wash machine. Chuck the water in, chuck your jocks in, bit of soap — press the start button, and away it goes.
"This thing runs on a 240 volt adapter, or we actually use the 12 volt plug out of our TV. Don't know how long it's gonna last, but we'll give him a crack anyway."
In the video, the machine, about the size of a kitchen bin, is seen washing a full load of washing for the pair while their caravan is parked behind.
Australians responding said they thought for a washing machine, $40 is "good value". "From Temu that's not bad," one person said. "These are great for camping if you're away for a couple of weeks," said another.
"So cool," said a third.
Another person asked if the couple had noticed "any cons" yet. Peter said in response: "Yeah — the spin cycle is pretty average, but...it uses a lot less water [than a regular washing machine]."

More caravans appear to be on the road in 2024
National Transport Research Organisation's (NTRO) Emily McLean told Yahoo News Australia on Thursday it appeared there are "definitely" more caravans on our roads in 2024 compared to previous years.
Van life has grown in popularity since the Covid pandemic put a temporary ban on international travel, and the camping trend is showing no sign of slowing down.
But gone are the days when caravan living was reserved for grey nomads. Now scores of Aussies, including couples, families and even singles, are taking to the great outdoors hoping to explore the Australian landscape while enjoying life on the road — and often with all the added luxuries of home.
